Training equipment
Come along with a flat or buckle collar (instructors will discuss other types of training collars and help make collar selection best suited to the handler and dog) and a four or six-foot leash (of cotton web or leather is recommended and 1/2 or 5/8 inch width is easiest to handle). Chain leashes or harnesses are not recommended.
Leads and collars are available for purchase from SABDTC and can be fitted for your dog on the first morning you attend training.
Not every dog needs the same equipment - so it is recommended that you not purchase training equipment, until you have spoken to an Instructor who can advise you of the best options for you and your dog. Using the right equipment, correctly fitted, makes a big difference!
Treats — Hot dogs sliced into thin portions, liver bits, cheese cubes, cat crunchies, toys, or anything that your dog gets excited about! See more about high-value treats.
At the ground
When you come along for the first time, please proceed to the building in the centre of the park. Here we can process your application, organise name tags and ask a few questions about your dog and what you’ve been doing so far.
There will be a short orientation session on the first Sunday, before you start training.
Remember to dress appropriately for the weather! We train every Sunday, so rain, hail or shine we will be there.
We also request that while on the ground you wear enclosed shoes.
